Crows Nest Light Installation, Done Properly
A dim room or a flickering fitting is usually a quick fix once the right electrician's on it. Our licensed local electricians handle downlights, feature lighting and outdoor fittings across Crows Nest homes, with a fixed price before we start and $50 off your first job. Call (02) 9054 3079 to book.
What We Handle Under Light Installation
A lighting job can be as small as one new switch or as big as rewiring a ceiling for downlights throughout. This is the work that sits under this service.
- LED downlight retrofits. Tired halogens come out, LEDs go in, and the ceiling space runs cooler for it.
- Feature and pendant lighting. A single piece over a dining table, or a full run through a hallway, wired and hung properly.
- Lighting for outdoor living. Alfresco areas, entries and garden paths wired to handle a Sydney summer storm without a second thought.
- Switches, dimmers and smart controls. Standard switches swapped for dimmers, sensors or app-controlled circuits, wherever the existing wiring allows it.
- Motion and security lighting. Driveway and entry fittings that switch on as you approach, tied into an existing circuit or run fresh.
- Working without roof access. No cavity above to pull cable through? Fittings still go in from below, cut and finished neatly.

How to Tell You Need Light Installation
Lighting problems rarely announce themselves. Most people notice them as small frustrations that build up over months before anyone calls an electrician.
- Halogen downlights running hot enough that the ceiling space feels warm above them.
- A room that's always dim no matter how many lamps get added to it.
- Switches with no dimmer option, in rooms that would genuinely use one.
- An outdoor area with no lighting at all once the sun goes down.
- A fitting that's flickered or buzzed for months and never been looked at.
- A renovation or extension that's left a room without a proper lighting plan.

The Crows Nest Angle on Light Installation
Crows Nest is a genuine mix of housing, and that shows up in every lighting job. Around Hume Street alone, Federation semis, 1970s walk-up flats and brand-new apartments sit within a few doors of each other.
A semi from the terrace era usually has a real roof cavity, so cabling runs through from above without much fuss. A walk-up flat is a different job: little to no roof space, so cable has to run through the ceiling itself or along the skirting instead.
New apartments near the Metro precinct bring their own rules again, with strata sign-off often needed before a fitting goes in. We plan the approach around which of these three you're in, not one method for every job.

What Your Light Installation Quote Depends On
A lighting quote comes down to what's already there and how much access the ceiling gives us.
- How many points are going in, whether that's fresh cable or simply swapping an existing fitting.
- Ceiling access. A walk-up flat near Hume Street with no roof cavity takes longer to wire than a semi with clear access from above.
- Whether switching, dimmers or smart controls are part of the job.
- The fittings you choose, from standard downlights to Beacon Lighting feature pieces.
- Any rewiring uncovered once an old fitting comes down.
You'll get a fixed price in writing before anything's switched off, plus $50 off if it's your first job with us.

How the Job Runs and How Long It Takes
A single-room job is often wrapped up in an afternoon. Rewiring several rooms for downlights typically fills a whole day.
- We assess access and confirm the price. We check the ceiling space and existing wiring, then lock in a quote before starting.
- We isolate the circuit. Power's cut to the area being worked on, and any old fittings come down safely.
- We run cable and fit the new lighting. New points get wired in, switches connected, and everything positioned where you want it.
- We test and hand it over. Every circuit is checked, dimmers and sensors set up, and we leave the space tidy.

Compliance, Certificates and NSW Requirements
Lighting circuits follow the same AS/NZS 3000 wiring rules as everything else on the property, and any new circuit needs a safety switch (RCD) protecting it.
Anything beyond a straight fitting swap, like adding a new circuit or running cable to an outdoor area, counts as notifiable work, so we lodge a Certificate of Compliance once it's done.
Wiring your own lighting, including adding new points or circuits, isn't legal in NSW without a licence. It has to be installed and certified by a licensed electrician, even for something as small as an extra downlight.

What You Get When We Do Your Light Installation
Fittings come from Beacon Lighting and SAL, brands that hold up under daily use rather than needing a replacement globe every few months.
Every electrician on this job carries Master Electricians Australia membership, and every circuit is tested to AS/NZS 3000 before we call it finished.
John, one recent customer, put it simply via Google: the job went smoothly and the price held up well against every other quote he'd gathered.

Servicing Nearby Homes Too
Pairing this with a switchboard upgrade makes sense once the board's shown to be at capacity, since new circuits need somewhere to land. It also comes up naturally alongside wider residential electrician work.
We service Crows Nest and neighbouring Cammeray, North Sydney and Waverton, across the wider North Sydney area.

Common questions
Your Light Installation FAQs
A few questions that come up before we start a lighting job.
What kind of warranty applies to a light installation job?
Every fitting carries a 12-month product warranty on top of what the manufacturer already offers. If something we've wired ever lets go, putting it right doesn't cost you anything in labour, no matter how long ago we did the job.
Does light installation have to be done by a licensed sparkie?
Yes. Anything beyond changing a globe, like wiring a new point or swapping a switch, is licensed electrical work in NSW, and doing it yourself isn't legal.
Is a Saturday appointment possible for light installation in Crows Nest?
Our standard hours run Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm, and lighting work is scheduled within that window. Saturdays aren't part of our regular booking pattern, so a weekday slot is the way to lock things in.
How do I prepare for the job?
There's not a lot to organise on your end. Keep the work area reachable and mention anything fragile nearby, and we'll bring everything the quote already covers.
How much does light installation cost in Sydney?
The number moves with how many points you want, whether we're running fresh cable or just swapping fittings, and which brand you choose. We'll always confirm the price in writing before anything starts, so there's no figure to guess at upfront.
Does an older Crows Nest home cause any extra hassle for light installation?
Not really. A semi or terrace with a real roof cavity is usually straightforward, and even a walk-up flat with no ceiling access can still be wired, it just takes a different approach to get the cable where it needs to go.
