Compliance, Certificates and NSW Requirements
Lighting circuits follow the same AS/NZS 3000 wiring rules as everything else on the property, and any new circuit needs a safety switch (RCD) protecting it.
Anything beyond a straight fitting swap, like adding a new circuit or running cable to an outdoor area, counts as notifiable work, so we lodge a Certificate of Compliance once it's done.
Wiring your own lighting, including adding new points or circuits, isn't legal in NSW without a licence. It has to be installed and certified by a licensed electrician, even for something as small as an extra downlight.

Yes. Anything beyond changing a globe, like wiring a new point or swapping a switch, is licensed electrical work in NSW, and doing it yourself isn't legal.
Is a Saturday appointment possible for light installation in Crows Nest?
